With 30 years in the international logistics industry, Tarun Sharma, Director of CloudPort Logistics Private Limited (New Delhi, India), shares his journey, insights, and vision for the future. From overcoming industry challenges to embracing innovation and sustainability, Tarun offers a deep dive into the evolving world of logistics. He also reflects on his passion for trekking and the leadership principles that drive his success.
How did you begin your career in the logistics industry, and what has your journey been like so far?
November 5, 2024, marks a major milestone—30 years in the international logistics industry! My journey began on November 5, 1994, with Allcargo Movers North Pvt. Ltd. (now Allcargo Logistics Ltd.), and over the years, I’ve experienced immense growth, challenges, and achievements that have shaped both my career and the industry.
I am deeply grateful to Capt. Anil Mohindru (now Chairman & Managing Director, EMU Lines Pvt. Ltd.) for giving me my first job and believing in my potential. His support set the foundation for my career. I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty (Founder & Chairman, Allcargo Group) for his mentorship and unwavering confidence in me. Their guidance pushed me beyond my comfort zone and played a crucial role in my professional growth.
I also want to thank my colleagues and subordinates for their collaboration and support. Their teamwork has been invaluable in achieving our shared goals.
Over the past three decades, I have witnessed the industry evolve—from advancements in technology to shifts in global trade policies. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and innovative logistics solutions on an international scale.
Reaching this milestone is not just about time—it’s a reflection of my passion and dedication to this field. I look forward to continuing this journey with the same enthusiasm I had from day one.
What do you see as the biggest challenge in the logistics today, and how do you think the industry is handling it?
I would always rate my company ahead when it comes to client experience, as the customized shipping solutions we offer are our major highlight. Beyond this, I can boldly say we stand apart from our competitors when it comes to Accessibility, Transparency, and providing cost-saving solutions.
What do you see as the biggest challenge in logistics today, and how do you think the industry is handling it?
One of the biggest challenges in logistics today is supply chain disruption, driven by factors like fluctuating demand, geopolitical tensions, and global trade uncertainties. The pandemic and its aftermath have further exposed vulnerabilities in global supply chains, making resilience more critical than ever.
Sustainability is another major concern, with growing pressure to reduce carbon emissions and adopt eco-friendly practices. Balancing these demands while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness is a challenge that many logistics companies face.
However, the industry is making significant strides in addressing these issues. Many companies, including ours, are investing in digitalization and AI-driven solutions for better route optimization, real-time tracking, and predictive analytics. These technologies help mitigate disruptions and enhance decision-making in real-time. Additionally, there is a strong push toward sustainable logistics, with more companies adopting electric vehicles, optimizing packaging, and integrating green energy into warehouses.
While these challenges are considerable, the logistics industry’s adaptability and continuous innovation are driving meaningful progress.
How do you handle the pressure of meeting tight delivery deadlines and coordinating complex operations?
Managing tight delivery deadlines and coordinating complex operations is a constant challenge in the logistics industry. I handle this pressure by focusing on effective planning, clear communication, and adaptability.
First, detailed planning is essential. We proactively identify potential bottlenecks and develop contingency plans to address unforeseen delays. This minimizes risks and ensures we stay prepared for any disruptions.
Second, clear communication is key. We maintain constant coordination between our team, clients, and network partners, ensuring everyone is aligned and any issues are addressed promptly.
Lastly, flexibility and adaptability are crucial. We stay agile, adjusting schedules and rerouting resources as needed to meet deadlines without compromising quality or safety.
Above all, staying calm under pressure, focusing on the end goal, and leading by example help create a resilient and responsive system—allowing us to meet deadlines while maintaining operational efficiency.
What do you enjoy most about logistics industry, and what makes your role particulary fulfiling?
With an innovative mindset and a problem-solving approach, what I enjoy most about the logistics industry is its dynamic nature—it’s constantly evolving with new challenges, innovations, and opportunities. The ability to solve complex problems, enhance efficiency, and improve customer satisfaction makes the work incredibly rewarding. Logistics plays a vital role in keeping global trade moving, and knowing that our efforts directly impact the seamless flow of goods and services is deeply fulfilling.
In my role leading CloudPort Logistics Private Limited, the most rewarding aspect is working with a passionate team that shares our vision of excellence. Seeing the company grow, overcome challenges, and continuously innovate to meet client needs is truly satisfying. Having the opportunity to shape the company’s direction, implement new strategies, and build strong industry relationships keeps me engaged and excited about our work every day.
Most importantly, I find fulfillment in the real impact we create for our clients—delivering reliable logistics solutions that add lasting value to their businesses.
If you could change one thing about the logistics industry, what would it be and what impact do you think it would have?
If I could change one thing about the logistics industry, I would focus on improving sustainability through more efficient supply chains. By prioritizing sustainable packaging, and optimizing routes, we could reduce the carbon footprint of logistics operations. The impact would be twofold: it would help the environment by cutting emissions, and it would also lead to cost savings over time due to lower fuel and waste disposal expenses.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting in your line of work?
Always stay curious and open to learning. The logistics industry is constantly evolving—whether through new technologies, changing regulations, or shifting market demands. Keeping yourself updated and continuously improving your skills will help you adapt and seize new opportunities.
Equally important is building strong relationships and maintaining clear, effective communication with mentors, colleagues, and clients. Logistics isn’t just about moving goods—it’s about understanding needs, anticipating challenges, and delivering innovative solutions that drive success.
What motivate you joining ALFA network, and has it met your expectations so far?
What motivated me to have CloudPort Logistics Private Limited join the network in December 2024 was our shared vision of expanding global reach and fostering stronger collaboration among industry peers. Having previously brought All-Ways Logistics India Pvt. Ltd., EMU Lines Pvt. Ltd., and Haiko Logistics India Pvt. Ltd. into the network during my tenure with those companies, I saw firsthand the value of building a cohesive network of trusted partners who can leverage Alfa Logistics Network’s resources for mutual growth.
Given CloudPort Logistics’ innovative approach, it was a natural fit for the Alfa Logistics Network. My experience with the network since 2017—across multiple companies—has consistently met my expectations, offering valuable opportunities for network expansion and enhanced service offerings.
The synergy within Alfa Logistics Network has been instrumental in driving success, and I’m confident that as we continue working alongside fellow members, we’ll achieve even greater milestones together.
Whats’s one resource or feature within the network you think more members should take advantage of?
The FMC Filing, Cargo Insurance, and Financial Security resources within the Alfa Network are incredibly valuable, and I believe more members should take full advantage of them.
FMC Filing helps ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, preventing fines or operational disruptions. Cargo Insurance provides an added layer of protection, safeguarding shipments from unexpected risks that could impact costs and customer satisfaction. Financial Security minimizes exposure to financial risks, offering peace of mind in case of disputes or claims.
By leveraging these resources, members can enhance operational efficiency, build stronger client relationships, and maintain a high level of trust and professionalism within the network. These features not only help mitigate risks but also contribute to a more secure and reliable logistics environment.
When you’re not focused on logistics, how do you like to unwind and enjoy your free time?
When I’m not immersed in logistics, I love to unwind by trekking and meditating in the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal Ranges of Himachal Pradesh, India. There’s something truly refreshing about stepping away from the hustle and finding peace in remote villages untouched by roads. These hidden gems offer a quiet, unspoiled environment where I can disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with myself.
Trekking through rugged landscapes provides both a physical challenge and a deep appreciation for nature. Meditating in such serene surroundings clears my mind, reduces stress, and brings fresh perspectives, leaving me rejuvenated.

My love for the mountains is so strong that for my 25th wedding anniversary on February 23, 2025, I plan to celebrate not with a big gathering in Delhi, but by taking my family to these villages. The breathtaking landscapes and pristine environment will allow us to disconnect from city life and immerse in nature, just as my wife and I did on our first three-week mountain trip after our wedding.
If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
If I could swap jobs with anyone in the logistics industry for a day, I’d choose to be a logistics operations manager at a large global shipping company. It would offer a unique perspective on managing large-scale supply chains, coordinating shipments across borders, and handling real-time challenges.
I’d love to experience firsthand how they balance intricate logistics with overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Overseeing different aspects of operations—from inventory management to tackling unforeseen disruptions—would provide valuable insights that could refine my approach in the future.
Thank you, Tarun, for sharing your journey and insights with us—your passion for logistics and innovation is truly inspiring!
