Inside ALFA: Anze Jamnik’s Journey Through Logistics and Commercial Leadership

Inside Alfa takes us behind the scenes with Anze Jamnik of Alfa SP, whose logistics journey spans Serbia and Slovenia. From his early passion for transport to leading commercial operations across multiple countries, Anze shares the experiences, challenges, and values that have shaped his career. His story reflects Alfa SP’s focus on trust, quality, and long-term growth in a constantly evolving logistics landscape.

We’d love to hear your story – how did you get started in the logistics world, and what motivated you to stay?

I would say that logistics has been in my blood since childhood—I always loved playing with trucks, planes, and trains. As I grew older, I pursued my studies at the Faculty of Logistics and began my professional journey at Alfa SP Logistika.

I started my career 11 years ago in airport operations. A few years later, I became Branch Manager of the Air Department, before moving into sales, where I also began working with ocean freight. Over time, I took responsibility for the entire sales department and was appointed Sales Director. As the company continued to grow and expand into Croatia and Serbia, I was later named Group Commercial Director, overseeing commercial activities across all three countries.

What has motivated me to stay in the logistics industry is the opportunity for continuous personal and business growth, along with the strong support of my teammates and our General Manager, whose trust and encouragement have played a key role in my journey.

What do you enjoy most about logistics industry, and what makes your role particularly fulfilling?

The logistics industry is extremely diverse, with constant new developments, routes, knowledge, and challenges. You have to stay up to date at all times, as it’s very easy to make a wrong decision. That constant responsibility is exactly what makes the industry so interesting—I wouldn’t trade that thrill for anything.

I also greatly enjoy the face-to-face interaction with my team, suppliers, and, of course, our clients, which makes my role even more fulfilling.

Do you believe AI will replace certain logistics roles, or simply empower them? Why?

I believe AI will replace certain logistics roles, particularly those involving repetitive and routine tasks such as data processing, demand forecasting, and route optimization. However, AI will primarily empower logistics professionals rather than fully replace them.

Human oversight will always be necessary to manage exceptions, make strategic decisions, address ethical considerations, and respond to unexpected situations. Logistics is a complex and dynamic field, and while AI can greatly improve efficiency and accuracy, human judgment and supervision will remain essential.

Looking ahead 5 years, what would “success” in logistics look like for your company or the industry as a whole?

Over the next five years, Alfa SP Logistika’s goal is to maintain and strengthen our position among the top 10 freight forwarders in the region, while further expanding our presence in Serbia and Croatia. We also plan to develop new opportunities in cross-dock warehousing and road groupage services, all while continuing to focus on quality over quantity across our operations.

Is there a motto or quote that guides you professionally? Why does it resonate with you?

A motto that guides me professionally is “Quality over quantity.” It resonates with me because I believe long-term success is built on reliability, trust, and consistently high standards. By focusing on quality, we build stronger relationships with clients and partners, reduce errors, and achieve sustainable growth rather than short-term gains.

You’ve been with us for a few months now – how has the journey been so far? Any highlights or surprises?

I can see that the network is working very well. We have already connected with several agents worldwide, including in countries that previously could not fully meet our needs before joining the network. However, I am still hoping to receive more inquiries from agents handling cargo into our region. I believe that after the 2026 conference, when we will have the opportunity to meet and speak with agents in person, this will lead to increased inquiries and stronger business opportunities through the network.

What’s one thing you think makes this network different from other professional associations or logistics groups?

One thing that truly sets this network apart is its strong focus on trust, long-term cooperation, and active partnership, rather than just membership. It brings together reliable agents who are willing to support each other’s growth, share opportunities, and work collaboratively to solve challenges.

What’s one thing your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

My colleagues might be surprised to learn that, despite working in a fast-paced and high-responsibility role, I truly value simple things outside of work—such as spending time with family and friends or fully disconnecting to recharge. I believe this balance helps me stay focused and effective professionally.

Thank you, Anze, for sharing your journey and insights with us.
