Inside Alfa: Dilek Azaz

For our newest Alfa member interview, we sat down with Dilek Azaz from Mersin, Türkiye. We talked about the need for better collaboration and transparency between logistics professionals, the daily challenges that her job brings and the importance of adaptability.

How did you get started in the logistics industry and what has your journey been like so far?

I entered the logistics industry over five years ago after completing my studies in business and human resource management. Starting in Turkey, I quickly became involved in cross-border operations, focusing on Middle Eastern and Central Asian routes.

My journey has been a dynamic blend of challenges and growth, providing me the opportunity to manage global client accounts and optimize complex supply chains. Each role helped build my expertise in coordinating diverse shipments and navigating the unique demands of different regions.

If there is one thing that you could change in the logistics industry, what would it be and why?

If there is one thing I could change in the logistics industry, it would be to foster greater trust and collaboration among companies while reducing excessive competitiveness. The logistics sector often operates in a highly competitive environment, which can sometimes hinder the sharing of best practices or resources.

By focusing more on partnerships and mutual growth, we can build stronger, more reliable networks, streamline operations, and ultimately provide better services to customers. Increased trust would also lead to more transparent communication, reducing inefficiencies and benefiting the entire supply chain.

What is the most exciting project or shipment you have been working on recently?

The most exciting project I’ve worked on recently involved managing heavy project cargo shipments to Iraq. These types of shipments are complex due to the size, regulatory requirements, and logistical hurdles. Coordinating such a large-scale operation, where timing and precision are crucial, was both a challenge and an opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in handling unique, high-stakes deliveries.

Which life lesson has working in logistics taught you?

Working in logistics has taught me the importance of adaptability. In this industry, challenges arise daily—from sudden changes in customs regulations to unexpected delays—so the ability to stay calm, think on your feet, and adapt quickly has been invaluable. It’s also taught me to plan ahead, but to be prepared for the unexpected.

What do you like most about the industry and your job in particular?

What I enjoy most about logistics is the fast-paced and ever-evolving nature of the industry. There’s always a new challenge to solve, whether it’s streamlining a supply chain or navigating complex international regulations. I find great satisfaction in knowing that my work ensures smooth operations for businesses and their customers.

How do you set yourself apart from your competitors?

I differentiate myself through a customer-centric approach. By developing strong relationships with my clients and deeply understanding their needs, I can offer personalized solutions that not only meet but exceed their expectations. Additionally, I focus on optimizing processes by integrating strategic goals that drive both efficiency and profitability.

What do you like the most about being a member of our logistics network?

Being a member of this logistics network has given me access to a diverse community of professionals. It’s an invaluable resource for sharing knowledge, discussing new trends, and finding innovative solutions to challenges. The collaborative nature of the network has strengthened my ability to deliver top-notch services to clients worldwide.

How do you relax in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy exploring nature, especially hiking, which helps me disconnect from the fast pace of the logistics industry. I also love reading about new trends in business and innovation, which not only relaxes me but also inspires new ideas for work.

Thanks, Dilek!
