Con una trayectoria marcada por la adaptabilidad y un fuerte enfoque en soluciones prácticas, Enrique comparte su visión sobre cómo afrontar las complejidades de la logística moderna.
ES: Mi camino hacia la logística internacional fue en parte planificado y en parte una feliz sorpresa. Siempre me interesó el comercio global y cómo los productos se mueven entre países, pero cuando empecé a trabajar en logística descubrí un mundo mucho más dinámico de lo que imaginaba. La combinación de estrategia, resolución de problemas y coordinación internacional me atrapó desde el primer momento.
EN: My path into international logistics was partly planned and partly a pleasant surprise. I was always interested in global trade and how products move between countries, but when I started working in logistics, I discovered a world that was much more dynamic than I had imagined. The combination of strategy, problem-solving, and international coordination captured my interest from the very beginning.
What do you see as the biggest challenge in logistics today, and how do you think the industry is handling it?
ES: Creo que uno de los mayores desafíos hoy es la volatilidad de las cadenas de suministro globales. Factores geopolíticos, cambios regulatorios y disrupciones en el transporte pueden impactar rápidamente la operación. La industria está respondiendo con una mayor digitalización, un mejor análisis de datos y estrategias de diversificación de rutas y proveedores para crear cadenas de suministro más resilientes.
EN: I believe one of the biggest challenges today is the volatility of global supply chains. Geopolitical factors, regulatory changes, and disruptions in transportation can quickly impact operations. The industry is responding with increased digitalization, improved data analysis, and strategies to diversify routes and suppliers in order to create more resilient supply chains.
Do you believe AI will replace certain logistics roles, or simply empower them? Why?
ES: Pienso que la inteligencia artificial será principalmente una herramienta de empoderamiento profesional. Automatizará tareas repetitivas como el análisis de datos, la previsión de demanda o la optimización de rutas, pero la toma de decisiones estratégicas, la negociación y la gestión de imprevistos seguirán requiriendo criterio humano. La IA permitirá que los profesionales de la logística se enfoquen más en la estrategia y menos en tareas operativas.
EN: I believe that artificial intelligence will primarily be a tool for professional empowerment. It will automate repetitive tasks such as data analysis, demand forecasting, or route optimization, but strategic decision-making, negotiation, and the management of unexpected situations will still require human judgment. AI will allow logistics professionals to focus more on strategy and less on operational tasks.
Sustainability is a hot topic in logistics. How is your organization approaching eco-friendly practices?
ES: La sostenibilidad se está convirtiendo en un eje clave. En nuestra organización buscamos optimizar rutas para reducir emisiones, consolidar cargas cuando es posible y colaborar con socios logísticos que estén invirtiendo en tecnologías más limpias. También trabajamos en mejorar la planificación para reducir movimientos innecesarios y maximizar la eficiencia del transporte.
EN: Sustainability is becoming a key focus. In our organization, we aim to optimize routes to reduce emissions, consolidate shipments whenever possible, and collaborate with logistics partners who are investing in cleaner technologies. We also work on improving planning to reduce unnecessary movements and maximize transport efficiency.
Is there a motto or quote that guides you professionally? Why does it resonate with you?
ES: Un principio que siempre me guía es: “La logística es la diferencia entre una promesa y una entrega.” Me recuerda que detrás de cada operación hay clientes y expectativas reales. Nuestro trabajo consiste en convertir planes en resultados concretos.
EN: A principle that always guides me is: “Logistics is the difference between a promise and a delivery.” It reminds me that behind every operation there are real customers and real expectations. Our job is to turn plans into concrete results.
Could you describe a difficult moment in your career that shaped the way you work today?
ES: Uno de los momentos más desafiantes fue gestionar un envío internacional crítico que quedó bloqueado por cambios regulatorios inesperados en aduana. Tuvimos que coordinar rápidamente con agentes, transportistas y el cliente para encontrar una solución. Esa experiencia me enseñó la importancia de la comunicación clara, la anticipación y de tener siempre planes alternativos.
EN: One of the most challenging moments was managing a critical international shipment that was held up due to unexpected regulatory changes at customs. We had to quickly coordinate with agents, carriers, and the client to find a solution. That experience taught me the importance of clear communication, anticipation, and always having backup plans.
You’ve been with us for a few months now — how has the journey been so far? Any highlights or surprises?
ES: Han sido meses muy enriquecedores. Lo que más me ha impresionado es la rapidez con la que el equipo responde a los desafíos operativos y la cultura de colaboración que existe. Cada semana presenta nuevos retos, pero también nuevas oportunidades de aprender y mejorar procesos.
EN: These have been very enriching months. What has impressed me the most is the speed at which the team responds to operational challenges and the collaborative culture that exists. Each week brings new challenges, but also new opportunities to learn and improve processes.
What’s a surprising skill, passion or hobby you have outside work?
ES: Fuera del trabajo disfruto mucho de los deportes acuáticos, especialmente el wakeboard. Es una actividad que me ayuda a desconectar y que, curiosamente, también comparte algo con la logística: equilibrio, anticipación y la capacidad de reaccionar rápido ante los cambios.
EN: Outside of work, I really enjoy water sports, especially wakeboarding. It’s an activity that helps me disconnect and, interestingly, it also shares something with logistics: balance, anticipation, and the ability to react quickly to changes.
