Inside Alfa brings forward the voices of experienced logistics professionals from across the network. In this interview, Pradeep Menon, CEO of Anka Logix in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, shares his perspective after nearly three decades in the industry. From witnessing the shift from manual documentation to fully digital operations, he reflects on how adaptability, trust, and consistency have shaped both his career and the way he does business today.
Tell us a bit about how your journey in logistics began – was it something you always planned, or did it take you by surprise?
Growing up in a small port town in India, I was always fascinated by ships, containers & port activity. While I didn’t initially plan a career in logistics, that early exposure clearly influenced my path.
After few early job stints, I joined a freight forwarding company in 1995 as an accountant. I soon realized accounting wasn’t my forte, but the role gave me my first opportunity to move into sales — a turning point that sparked my passion for the logistics industry. After gaining around five years of experience in India, I moved to Dubai, which opened the door to broader international exposure and growth.
How have you seen technology transform logistics in the past five years, and what are you most excited about for the future?
Having spent nearly three decades in this industry, the transformation has been remarkable. I come from a time when bills of lading were typed manually on typewriters, documentation was physically couriered, and customs filings were done at the counter. Compared to that era, today’s digital platforms, real-time tracking, and automated systems have completely changed the speed, accuracy, and visibility of logistics operations.
What excites me most about the future is how technology will continue to simplify processes, improve decision-making, and allow logistics professionals to focus more on value creation and customer solutions rather than paperwork.
Sustainability is a hot topic in logistics. How is your organization approaching eco-friendly practices?
Sustainability is becoming an essential part of logistics planning rather than just a trend. At Anka Logix, we focus on practical steps such as optimizing routing, encouraging consolidated shipments / deliveries, reducing paper usage through digital processes, and working closely with partners who share similar environmental values. While logistics will always involve movement, we believe responsible planning can significantly reduce its environmental impact.
What’s the biggest myth about logistics that you wish you could debunk?
One of the biggest myths is that logistics is just an operational expense, often under-budgeted despite its impact on timelines and performance. In reality, good logistics reduces risk and avoids costly disruptions.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting in your line of work?
Logistics rarely goes strictly by the book, and no two situations are the same. Stay adaptable, keep learning from real-world experience, and focus on building strong relationships and clear communication — these are just as important as technical knowledge.
What motivated you to join this network, and has it met your expectations so far?
I have been associated with this network for several years, even before starting Anka Logix. When I decided to establish the company, ALFA was my first choice, based on the trust, relationships, and professionalism I had already experienced. It has fully met my expectations by enabling strong global collaboration and reliable partnerships.
If you had to describe this network to a new contact or colleague in one sentence, what would you say?
It’s a reliable global community of logistics professionals who collaborate easily and do business with trust.
If your workday had a theme song, what would it be?
My best choice would be “ You can count on me” – Bruno Mars, it’s about being reliable & supportive.
Thank you, Pradeep, for sharing your insights with us.
