In this edition of Inside ALFA, we speak with Sardar Afzaal of Hazaq Global Logistics, whose journey into logistics began unexpectedly but quickly turned into a lifelong career. From starting as a sales executive in Saudi Arabia to building his own logistics business, his story reflects the power of determination, adaptability, and entrepreneurial spirit. He shares insights on the future of logistics, the role of AI, and the mindset that helps him navigate the industry’s constant challenges.
Tell us a bit about how your journey in logistics began – was it something you always planned, or did it take you by surprise?
After completing my education in Pakistan, my goal was always to build my own business rather than follow a traditional 9-5 path. At the time, logistics wasn’t a planned choice, but an opportunity came up when I joined a logistics firm in Saudi Arabia in 2005. Starting as a sales executive, I spent years gaining hands-on experience and understanding the industry from the ground up. After 8 years, I established my own logistics business in Saudi Arabia in 2013, which has continued to grow ever since.
Looking back, logistics wasn’t something I initially planned, but it became the path that allowed me to grow, learn, and ultimately achieve my goals of building a successful business.
What trends or technologies are you most excited (or concerned) about in logistics right now?
I’m excited about automation, AI, and sustainable tech – they make logistics smarter, faster, and greener.
Do you believe AI will replace certain logistics roles, or simply empower them? Why?
As a logistics business owner, I believe AI will mostly empower roles more than replace them. It takes over repetitive and data-heavy tasks, helping employees make faster and better decisions. Logistics still depends on human judgment, relationships and real-time problem solving. So AI becomes a support tool, not a substitute for people.
Could you describe a difficult moment in your career that shaped the way you work today?
A challenging moment was during a busy season when one of our trucks broke down with several important deliveries on board. We had to quickly rearrange vehicles, reroute drivers, and communicate with clients to manage delays. That experience taught me the importance of planning for contingencies, staying calm under pressure, and keeping the team coordinated, and it’s shaped how I run operations today.
Is there a motto or quote that guides you professionally? Why does it resonate with you?
A personal motto I follow is: ‘Plan for the worst, hope for the best.’ It resonates with me because logistics is full of unexpected challenges—delays, breakdowns, or sudden demand spikes. Keeping this mindset reminds me to always prepare, stay adaptable, and remain calm under pressure, which has been crucial in running my business smoothly.

How has the network helped you overcome specific challenges in your industry or field?
It has helped me by allowing a connection with reliable partners we can actually trust. When issues come up in a new markets or cross-border shipments, having people on the ground makes a real difference. It saves time reduces risk, and helps solve problems faster.
What’s one thing you think makes this network different from other professional associations or logistics groups?
What really sets this network apart is the quality of its members. It’s not a just a name – sharing group, people are active, responsive, and genuinely willing to support each other. That level of trust and collaboration is hard to find in most logistics associations.
What’s a surprising skill, passion or hobby you have outside work?
I love to play cricket once a week, never really lost passion for the sport.
