For this month’s Alfa member interview, we talked to Thandar Wain from Yangon, Myanmar. We chatted about the importance of technological advancements for logistics, her company’s ambitions and the daily challenges of her job.
How did you get started in the logistics industry and what has your journey been like so far?
After my graduation, I was looking for a job in an industry that valued real life experience over textbook knowledge. In 2008, I did an internship at Shipping Company and this was my first step in the Logistics industry. Today, I’m working as Director of my company.
Is there a specific lesson or skill that working in logistics has taught you?
When I started on this journey, I always took risks and tested new avenues, pulled up my sleeves to learn things from the bottom up.
My 16 years experience taught and made me understand how important professionalization is in this job and it is always required to meet the supply chains, plan processes in advance and negotiate or communicate with clients.
What do you like the most about being a member of our logistics network?
We are so grateful to be a part of Alfa and I believe that Alfa can support us with more opportunities to build a truly qualitative and financially stable member. On top of that, this network provides platforms for professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and forge valuable partnerships.
How do you set yourself apart from your competitors?
According to my experience, accountability and transparency create a unique relationship with clients and it is strongly bonding with your network. I think this is the best branding of who you are and why you are different from competitors.
If there is one thing that you could change to the logistics industry, what would it be and why?
Nowadays technological innovation comes into place and benefits us our industry in various ways. With this technological help, I want to get a more supportive system that aids in controlling and monitoring the environmental impacts of supply chains.
What are your personal ambitions for the future or what is something your company is hoping to improve/invest in?
I have a lot of personal ambitions but they are all based on a continuously developing mindset.
I have a vision of consistent growth for the company regarding two things: the people and the financial management. If the company has great people and great financial management, it will lead the company to perform well even though slower economic times.
What do you like most about the industry and your job in particular?
There’s no room for boredom in this field. Each day brings opportunities to be innovative. This is also helping our managing skill and growth, not only in the industry but also in our daily life.
How do you relax in your free time?
I mostly spend my time with family and for my alone time, I do painting and doing yoga.
— Thanks, Thandar!
