Post panamax container ship loses at least 26 boxes in the North Sea

The 6,350 TEU container ship Marcos V lost at least 26 empty containers near the Wadden Islands, in the north of The Netherlands in the North Sea, on 19 February.

The Dutch coast guard, along with the governmental agency Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), spent the weekend trying to find the lost boxes, but at the time of writing, there are no reports for any findings.

The Panama-flagged boxship, which was acquired by the Greek vessel owner Euroseas in 2021, was en route from the port of Bremerhaven to the port of Rotterdam, when strong winds and heavy waves caused the loss of the boxes.

“The ship lost the containers in the sailing route to the south, between the north of Vlieland and the west of Schoorl,” reported the Dutch coast guard, which has also warned about potential danger due to the lost containers.

The investigations for the finding of the empty containers continue.
