Port of Long Beach container volumes up with 30% while LA records 22%

Due to unprecedented pre-Lunar New Year inbound volumes, a combination of increased consumer spending, holiday shipments and replenishment of warehouse inventories, the US-American ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are experiencing a period of congestion.

While the Port of Long Beach had its best November on record, handling almost 784,000 teu, a 30.6% leap compared to November 2019, the Port of Los Angeles processed almost 890,000 teu last November, an increase of 22% compared to November 2019.

In order to ease future planning, the Port of Long Beach recently launched a new online dashboard called the Wave (Weekly Advance Volume Estimate) report to shine a spotlight on anticipated cargo flow.

Wave also provides goods movement stakeholders like trucking companies and chassis providers with forward-looking data they need to better cope with surging cargo volume and other challenges. Updated each Monday, the weekly report projects cargo container volume and vessel calls several weeks ahead, and includes estimates of categories of cargo, such as export, import, empty, etc. (cd)
