For this month’s Alfa member interview, we had a chat with Osman Caner Mersin, Turkey. We talked about the importance of well-trained, experience staff and providing your customers with an alternative point of view.
How did you get started in the logistics industry and what has your journey been like so far?
The fact that Mersin is a port-logistics city, the experiences and guidance of my friends and family members in this sector, the areas where I can improve myself and the employment opportunities have been effective in my entry into the sector.
It has caused a process that I enjoy being in this sector, which has a constantly changing and dynamic structure from the beginning, where I can gain new information and experiences every day.
How do you set yourself apart from your competitors?
Our biggest goal is that we want our customers and partners to see us as one of their own and feel like we are on the same ship. Our aim is to establish long-term relationships with our customers and become their solution partner. We want our customers to be able to revise their productivity and workflow and keep up with the changes through new solutions from changing service conditions or changing logistics processes. We always want to present our customers’ demands with alternatives, and if there is an angle that they do not look at, we would like to offer them the opportunity to look at it from different angle.
At the same time, our work teams have sufficient experience in their fields and are educated and graduated from the leading universities of the country in maritime transport, and they reach a solution by taking quick actions.
Again, our team and partners, who have previously gained experience in other branches of the sector (customs, warehousing, etc.), are able to take a wider view and provide more comprehensive solutions.
If there is one thing that you could change to the logistics industry, what would it be and why?
I think that the logistics sector is a sector that is completely open to innovations and does not accept to remain stable.
I would like to create a system where people and institutions in the sector can increase the communication of our customers and partners with whom we work.
It is clear that the speed issue is very important today and that increasing the communication power will benefit the parties.
What do you like the most about being a member of our logistics network?
Sincere relations, trust and guarantees provided by the logistics network. Fast solutions and announcements contribute to increasing our business volume. The Alfa Global Family, which we have joined in order to provide global solutions to our customers, have supported us in fulfilling the demands of our customers until now and continue to develop themselves.
What do you like most about the industry and your job in particular?
I love working with people from different cultures.
To be able to provide solutions and support to our customers on issues that they have not experienced, to offer unusual and safe solutions to customers.
How do you relax in your free time?
I stay busy with sports like running, biking and tennis. I also like to spend time in my garden
— Thanks, Osman!
