Great logistics networks are built on more than just efficient routes and reliable carriers; they are built on relationships. At Alfa Global Family, the bond between our members is the glue that holds everything together.
For nearly four years, Maria has been a central figure in fostering those bonds. As our Sales & Membership Coordinator, she is often one of the first points of contact for our partners. Unlike many who stumble into logistics by accident or family tradition, Maria came to us with a fresh perspective and an eagerness to learn. Her journey from industry newcomer to a knowledgeable coordinator is a story of curiosity and growth.
We caught up with Maria to talk about her four years with the team, why she loves our annual conferences, and how solving puzzles helps her unwind after a busy week.
A Fresh Perspective on Logistics
Hi Maria! Let’s start with the basics. Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role here?
Maria: I am Maria, and I work as the Sales & Membership Coordinator at Alfa Global Family.
You have become such a familiar face to our members. How long have you been part of the team now?
Maria: Time flies! In just a few months, I will be celebrating my four-year anniversary here.
Did you have a background in supply chain management before joining us?
Maria: Actually, before becoming part of the Alfa team, I had no real background in logistics. I knew the basics—how goods moved from one place to another—but the technical side was a mystery to me. Concepts like bills of lading, filings, and specific operational processes were completely new.
This role has really been my gateway into discovering just how complex and exciting the logistics industry truly is. It has been a steep but rewarding learning curve.
Building Connections
What keeps you motivated to come in and do your best work every day?
Maria: It really comes down to the people. Alongside my supportive colleagues, it is our members and the experiences we create together that motivate me every day. Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many new people from different cultures and backgrounds. Learning from them keeps the job fresh and exciting.
Is there a specific aspect of working with members that you enjoy the most?
Maria: Definitely the in-person interactions. The part when we meet face-to-face at our conferences is where the real connections start. Emails and calls are great, but shaking hands and sharing a conversation in the same room is where the relationship truly solidifies.
Puzzles and Creativity
What is the first thing you do when you log off to switch gears?
Maria: I head straight home to play and walk with my dog. It’s the best way to relax and leave the workday behind.
How do you recharge your batteries for the next day?
Maria: For me, it is all about community. Spending quality time with my family and friends helps me recharge after a long day.
Do you have any hobbies that helps you unwind?
Maria: My current hobby is puzzling. It really helps me relax. There is something very calming about focusing on the pieces and seeing the big picture come together slowly.
That requires a lot of patience! One last question: If you weren’t in logistics, what career path might you have chosen?
Maria: I think I would get involved in creative jobs—of course, after following the necessary courses! I have an interest in the creative side of things that I think would be fun to explore.
Wrapping Up
Maria’s journey at Alfa Global Family proves that you don’t need decades of experience to make an impact; you just need curiosity and a willingness to learn. Her dedication to understanding the complexities of the industry, combined with her genuine love for connecting with people, makes her an invaluable asset to our membership team.
Whether she is piecing together a complex puzzle at home or helping connect partners across the globe, Maria approaches everything with focus and care. We look forward to celebrating her four-year milestone very soon!
