In this article, we speak with Mr. Wesley Pereira, Director of MegaSpeed Cargo in Dubai, about how more than 40 years of shipping experience have helped the company respond to one of the most serious logistics disruptions the region has faced in decades.

With Dubai as its primary shipping origin and China as another important sourcing point, MegaSpeed Cargo moves vehicles, machinery and commercial cargo to Africa and destinations worldwide. We asked how the company is adapting to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and continuing to keep its customers’ cargo moving.

Tell us about MegaSpeed Cargo and the markets you serve.

MegaSpeed Cargo has more than 40 years of experience in international shipping and logistics. We began by supporting African markets with dependable and affordable shipping services from Dubai, and Africa remains central to our business today.

Over the years, MegaSpeed Cargo has expanded its operations and developed strong trade lanes connecting Dubai with Africa, Europe, South America, and the Far East. China has also become an important origin for vehicles, spare parts, machinery, electronics, and commercial cargo.

MegaSpeed Cargo is a true one-stop logistics solutions provider, offering comprehensive shipping services under one roof. From sea and air freight to vehicle shipping, heavy machinery, land transport, groupage, buyer consolidation, and cargo handling, we support customers throughout the entire shipping process.

MegaSpeed Cargo was also among the pioneers of multi-car container stuffing. By developing safe, efficient methods to load 1-6 vehicles into a single container, we helped customers maximise container capacity and reduce shipping cost per vehicle.

MegaSpeed Cargo’s longevity comes from continuously adapting to changing markets while maintaining the same focus on reliability, value and customer service.

What role do groupage services play in your business?

Groupage is a key part of MegaSpeed Cargo’s comprehensive one-stop logistics offering, with services from Dubai and China to more than 20 destinations across Africa.

Not every customer has enough cargo to fill an entire container. Through groupage and consolidation, multiple shipments share container space, allowing customers to move smaller volumes without paying for a full container.

Through our hub in Dubai, we bring together cargo from around the world and move it onward to its final destination.

MegaSpeed Cargo’s aim is to provide practical, reliable, and value-driven groupage services from Dubai and China to African markets. We handle cartons, pallets, spare parts, engines, commercial goods, and other suitable cargo, helping traders and businesses manage their shipping costs more effectively.

2026 has been an extraordinary year for regional shipping. What has happened?

The shipping industry has faced two major disruptions in succession.

The first was the Red Sea crisis, from late 2023 through 2025. Vessel traffic was diverted away from the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, forcing many carriers to sail around the southern tip of Africa. This added considerable time and cost to international shipping schedules.

The second disruption has been more serious for companies operating from the Gulf. Following the regional conflict that began on 28 February 2026, normal commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz became severely restricted.

The Strait of Hormuz is the main maritime entrance to the Gulf. Any major disruption there immediately affects port access, vessel schedules, container availability, insurance costs, and freight rates throughout the region.

What has the disruption meant for MegaSpeed Cargo specifically?

For MegaSpeed Cargo, the main concern has been access to Jebel Ali.

Jebel Ali has traditionally been one of MegaSpeed Cargo’s primary gateways for vehicles, machinery, groupage cargo and general freight moving from Dubai to Africa and other international markets. It is also important for cargo arriving in Dubai for local delivery, storage or re-export.

Because Jebel Ali is located inside the Gulf, vessels must pass through the Strait of Hormuz to reach it. With normal commercial traffic severely restricted, many established shipping arrangements have had to be reconsidered.

For MegaSpeed Cargo, with Dubai at the centre of its operations, this is not simply a matter of selecting another vessel. It involves finding alternative ports and coordinating trucking, warehousing, customs documentation, cargo handling and onward delivery.

How has MegaSpeed Cargo managed to keep cargo moving?

More than 40 years in the shipping industry have taught MegaSpeed Cargo never to depend entirely on one port, one carrier or one route.

MegaSpeed Cargo has been evaluating and using alternative gateways outside the Strait of Hormuz, including Khor Fakkan and Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast, as well as Sohar and Salalah in Oman. Cargo can then be connected with Dubai, the wider UAE and other GCC markets through suitable inland and bonded-transport arrangements.

For other markets, routes through Jeddah, Aqaba and Turkey can provide additional options, depending on the cargo and its final destination.

These arrangements require careful coordination, but they allow MegaSpeed Cargo to continue operating when the usual route is unavailable or unreliable.

How has the Alfa Global Network supported MegaSpeed Cargo during this period?

MegaSpeed Cargo has been a member of the Alfa Global Network since its inception, and that membership has been extremely valuable during this period.

No logistics company can independently maintain operations in every port and country. A strong international network gives MegaSpeed Cargo access to trusted local partners who understand their respective markets and can provide reliable information and practical support.

During a crisis, accurate information is just as important as transport capacity. Through the Alfa Global Network, MegaSpeed Cargo can communicate with partners who can assist with alternative ports, warehousing, trucking, documentation, customs procedures, cargo handling, and final delivery.

These relationships were built over many years, long before the crisis began. That makes a significant difference when decisions must be made quickly, and cargo needs to be redirected.

MegaSpeed Cargo’s Alfa partners in locations such as Belgium, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Turkey have helped the company evaluate alternative gateways and onward connections for different destinations.

What role does China play in MegaSpeed Cargo’s current operations?

Dubai remains MegaSpeed Cargo’s primary shipping origin, but China provides another important option for its customers.

MegaSpeed Cargo handles vehicles, automotive parts, machinery, electronics, supplier goods, and commercial cargo from China. Where practical, shipments can move directly from China to Africa or another destination without first passing through Dubai.

Cargo intended for Dubai or the wider GCC can also be evaluated for entry through an accessible port outside the Strait of Hormuz, followed by inland transportation.

Having established shipping operations from both Dubai and China gives MegaSpeed Cargo’s customers greater flexibility and helps reduce dependence on a single origin or route.

Has MegaSpeed Cargo’s multi-car loading experience been useful during the crisis?

Absolutely. When vessel capacity becomes limited, or shipping costs increase, the efficient use of container space becomes even more important.

MegaSpeed Cargo’s experience in multi-car container loading allows the company to maximise available space while ensuring that vehicles are properly positioned, lashed, secured and protected.

Depending on the type and dimensions of the vehicles, several units can be safely loaded into a single container. This can help reduce the shipping cost per vehicle and provide an alternative when RoRo schedules are unavailable, unsuitable or heavily disrupted.

It is a good example of how the technical knowledge MegaSpeed Cargo has developed over several decades continues to solve present-day shipping challenges.

How does MegaSpeed Cargo’s range of services help it respond to disruption?

Being a true one-stop logistics solutions provider gives MegaSpeed Cargo more than one way to approach a shipment.

MegaSpeed Cargo handles sea freight, air freight, vehicle shipping, RoRo, LoLo, land transportation, heavy machinery, groupage, and consolidation. If one method becomes unavailable, the company can assess whether another route or transport mode is suitable.

Urgent and high-value cargo may move by air. Vehicles may be consolidated into containers. Smaller commercial shipments can move through MegaSpeed Cargo’s groupage services. Heavy machinery may require specialised containers, flat racks or breakbulk arrangements.

MegaSpeed Cargo’s objective is not simply to sell one shipping method. It is to understand the customer’s cargo and provide a comprehensive, value-driven solution based on the routes and services available at that time.

Where does the situation stand now?

Normal commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely restricted, and there is still uncertainty about when stable operations will return.

For that reason, MegaSpeed Cargo is treating alternative ports, inland corridors and partner-supported routes as part of everyday logistics planning rather than temporary emergency measures.

Customers cannot put their business on hold while waiting for one route to reopen. MegaSpeed Cargo’s responsibility is to understand their requirements, assess the available options and find a practical way to keep their cargo moving.

What should shippers learn from this crisis?

The main lesson is the importance of preparation.

Depending on one port, one carrier, one route, or one service creates unnecessary risk. Alternative gateways, transport modes, and reliable local partners should be identified before disruption occurs.

For MegaSpeed Cargo, more than 40 years of experience, established operations from Dubai and China, pioneering multi-car loading expertise, comprehensive shipping services and the support of the Alfa Global Network have provided the flexibility needed to respond.

A final thought?

Shipping has always faced disruption, but experience teaches a company how to adapt without losing sight of the customer.

MegaSpeed Cargo has worked through changing markets and difficult operating conditions for more than four decades. The current crisis is significant, but the principle remains the same: understand the cargo, know the available routes, and work with trusted partners.

That is how MegaSpeed Cargo Dubai continues to deliver value and keep cargo moving.

Thank you, Mr. Pereira, for sharing MegaSpeed Cargo’s experience and its response to the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
